♻️ Waste Not, Want Not: Sustainability at Dezz Nuts Spirits

At Dezz Nuts, we don’t see by‑products as “waste”—we see production resources waiting for a second act. Whether it's spent grain, fermentation lees, or botanical remnants, we give every drop and kernel a new life.

1. Solid Waste – Spent Grain

After distillation, we’re left with nutritious grain that’s ideal for animals and even people.
Partnerships with local farmers turn it into feed for pigs, poultry, and fish—plus artisan bread and dog biscuits. 🐖🐔🐟🐶🥖
The runoff helps balance soil pH, and anything leftover goes into compost for community gardens.

2. Sedimentary Waste – Lees & Trub

The sediment (dead yeast, proteins, and spent solids) is nutrient-rich.
We generate about 12.5 L wet (6 kg dried) per 250 L batch.
Uses include fertilizer, natural herbicide, and a soil health booster—no landfill required.

3. Botanical Waste – Post-Infusion Harvest

Every botanical we infuse—juniper, citrus, coriander—leaves flavorful leftovers.
What we’re doing:
- Composting
- Drying for potpourri or sachets
- Testing for gin‑infused breads, beard oils, soaps, and room sprays
- Collaborating with breweries and distillers on botanical‑enhanced beer/cider
- Using in Absinthe for added flavor complexity
With growing production (400–800 L daily), we’re repurposing 12–24 kg/day
—that’s 264–528 kg/month of botanical biomass in search of purpose.
